As travel advisors, we spend a lot of time thinking about how to grow our business. More leads. More bookings. More clients.

While all of those things are important, growing your revenue doesn’t always mean working harder or booking more travel. Sometimes, it’s about taking advantage of the opportunities that already exist within the bookings you’re making every day.

Over the years, we’ve seen advisors increase their income simply by making a few small changes to their process. None of these require a complete business overhaul. They simply require being intentional.

Here are five opportunities every travel advisor should be taking advantage of.

1. Register Your Hotel Bookings

If you’re booking luxury or preferred hotels and not registering those reservations, you could be leaving money and valuable perks on the table.

Many hotel programs reward advisors for taking that extra step. Depending on the property or supplier, registering a booking can unlock additional commission, advisor recognition, complimentary stays, and exclusive client amenities such as breakfast, resort credits, or room upgrades.

The best part? It usually only takes a few minutes.

It’s one of those simple tasks that can make a noticeable difference over the course of a year, both for your bottom line and for the experience you’re able to provide your clients.

Ask yourself: Before you close out a hotel booking, have you checked to see if it qualifies for additional advisor benefits?

2. Charge for Your Expertise

Here’s something we hear often in our industry.

You’re not just booking travel.

You’re researching destinations, comparing suppliers, creating itineraries, monitoring changes, answering questions, solving problems, and advocating for your clients before, during, and after their trip.

That’s professional expertise.

Planning fees aren’t about charging more. They’re about being compensated for the value you already provide.

Many advisors worry clients will push back, but in reality, clients who value your experience understand that professional planning has value. In many cases, planning fees also help attract more committed clients while reducing the number of shoppers looking for the lowest price.

Your knowledge and your time are valuable. Don’t be afraid to treat them that way.

3. Take Advantage of Supplier Incentives

Suppliers want advisors to succeed, and many offer programs designed to reward you for the business you’re already bringing them.

From bonus commissions and gift cards to complimentary hotel nights, booking contests, marketing funds, and educational opportunities, these incentives can add meaningful revenue throughout the year.

If you’re already booking with a preferred supplier, take a few extra minutes to see what promotions or advisor rewards are currently available. You may discover opportunities you didn’t even know existed.

A little extra research before confirming a booking can often pay off long after your client returns home.

4. Make Travel Insurance Part of Every Conversation

Travel insurance is one of the most overlooked revenue opportunities in our industry, but it should never be viewed as just another commission opportunity.

First and foremost, it’s about protecting your clients.

Unexpected situations happen every day. Illnesses, weather delays, cancellations, lost baggage, medical emergencies, and countless other circumstances can disrupt even the best-planned vacation. Having the conversation about travel insurance gives your clients the information they need to make an informed decision about protecting their investment.

It also helps protect your business.

Third-party travel insurance creates another commission opportunity while helping protect the commission you’ve already earned if a covered cancellation occurs. Depending on the provider and product, advisors may also earn 20–35% commission on travel insurance sales, making it one of the highest commission opportunities available on many bookings.

Just as important, consistently offering travel insurance and documenting those conversations is considered a best practice and helps reduce your professional risk.

Many advisors avoid discussing insurance because they don’t feel confident explaining it.

That’s okay.

Like anything else in this industry, confidence comes with education, practice, and experience. The more comfortable you become having those conversations, the more value you’ll provide to your clients and the more natural it will feel to make travel insurance part of your sales process.

5. Never Stop Investing in Yourself

The travel industry never stands still.

Suppliers introduce new products, destinations evolve, technology changes, and client expectations continue to grow.

The advisors who continue learning are often the ones who continue growing.

Attend supplier webinars.

Participate in industry training.

Network with other advisors.

Learn a new niche.

Ask questions.

Every educational opportunity makes you a more knowledgeable advisor, builds confidence, and ultimately helps you provide a better experience for your clients.

At Oasis Travel Network, education has always been one of our biggest priorities because we’ve seen firsthand what happens when advisors have the right tools and support. They build stronger businesses, create better client experiences, and uncover new opportunities they may not have realized existed.

Make Every Booking Count

Growing your business doesn’t always mean finding more clients or booking more trips. Sometimes, it’s simply about taking full advantage of the opportunities that already exist within the bookings you’re making every day.

Whether it’s registering a hotel booking for additional benefits, implementing planning fees, taking advantage of supplier incentives, offering travel insurance, or investing in your own education, each of these small steps can contribute to a stronger, more profitable business.

The best advisors are always looking for ways to provide more value to their clients while creating new opportunities for themselves. When you focus on both, everyone wins.

We’re committed to helping our advisors do exactly that. Through ongoing education, supplier partnerships, marketing resources, insurance training, and business development support, we strive to give our advisors the tools and confidence they need to continue growing.

Because sometimes the biggest opportunity isn’t finding the next booking. It’s making the most of the one that’s already in front of you.
